Kayla Mesa and Luis Carrillo Earn September Athletes of the Month

Kayla Mesa and Luis Ivan Carrillo have earned Imperial Valley College Athletes of the Month for September 2022. 

Kayla Mesa is a 5'6 Freshman who runs on the Women's Cross Country team for IVC. Kayla's hometown is Imperial, CA and is a graduate from Central Union High School. Kayla was nominated by her coach Jessica Ortega for this award. Kayla has been a leader on the Cross Country team showing commitment to the college and the cross country program throughout the season. Kayla competes in the 5K event and has posted times of 23:43 and 24:15 so far this year. Women's Cross Country's next event is on October 14th at the Mt. Sac Invitational in Walnut California. 

Luis Ivan Carrillo is a 5'7 freshman on the IVC Men's Soccer team. Luis grew up in El Centro and is a graduate of Southwest high school. Carrillo was key in IVC Men's Soccer winning their first game of the year scoring two goals in IVC's 4-1 win over San Diego Mesa College on 9/30. Luis also scored a goal on 9/13 during a road loss to Citrus College. Carrillo again found the back of the net on October 4th during a game at Cuyamaca College. Men's Soccer currently sits at 1-11 on the season. The men's Soccer team still has six home matches throughout late October and early November.
