IMPERIAL 02-14-24 - The Imperial Valley Women Basketball Warriors hosted the 8-1 Palomar College Comets for a big home conference game on Wednesday the 14th. What started off as a competitive match up against the Warriors, and Comets both teams understood what was at stake for either team coming out victorious. Both teams started off in man to man defense and the Warriors established double team when the comets would go inside the paint for layups. The Comets at first were very successful in rebounding their own shots at the basket as they out rebounded the Warriors inside the paint. The Warriors in the second quarter began to take control and get the momentum they needed. The Warriors began to get the rebounds needed along with blocked shots and turnaround finishes by their bigs inside the paint. The Warriors started the quarter off strong on their end but the Comets continued to answer right back. Both teams were in bonus for easy opportunities at the basket in which the comets took advantage of. Offensive, and defensive fouls began to haunt the Warriors as the turnovers gave the Comets extra ball possession opportunities. Toward the end of the first half a handful of the Warriors possessions would be turned over as the Comets continued to add to their lead. The Warriors would enter the second half down by double digits as they looked to turn the game into theirs. The Comets would start off the second half with back to back points at the basket. The Warriors were able to break the Comets full court press but a handful of drives ended in the Comets processions. The Comets would then have the control of the game as they continued to get the turnovers needed, and points at the basket. The Warriors however continued to put up a fight despite the large lead made the plays needed to happen for their favor. It did not last long as the Comets continued to be successful in deep ball three’s as they made their double digit lead into a triple digit lead. The Comets would leave with the win over the Warriors in a 85-54 game win.
